and SR. HIGH CLASSES
CONFIRMATION (6TH GRADE)
Youth Wing Upstairs Rooms 244 and 246
Youth Wing Upstairs Rooms 244 and 246
Taught by Arthur Davis – uses the Credo confirmation curriculum. Although Credo emphasizes that Confirmation is more than just a series of classes, confirmation class sessions are nonetheless a critical part of the confirmation experience. The 18 sessions (spread over 36 weeks) in the Credo program tell confirmands the story of our faith, teach them about core Christians beliefs and practices, explain to them distinct United Methodist emphases, and help them develop a faith vocabulary. These sessions fall into three units: “Know Your Story,” “Confirm Your Faith,” and “Live Your Commitment.” At the conclusion of the class each May, the students are invited to make a public profession of faith and join in full membership with the church. This commitment is celebrated as part of worship on “Confirmation Sunday” in May.
JUNIOR HIGH (7TH AND 8TH GRADES)
Youth Wing Upstairs Room 242
Taught by Kathryn Braddock – An opportunity to grow in our faith and to live out our belief in God. We learn how God chooses ordinary people to make a difference in the world. We learn that by choosing to be faithful to God, we set an example for others. We see how God has chosen leaders and how people have chosen to follow God, just as we make these same choices today.
SENIOR HIGH I (9TH THROUGH 12TH GRADES)
Youth Wing Upstairs Rooms 248 and 250
Taught by Frank Hejtmanek – We are exploring what it truly means to follow Jesus today. We are examining the Bible’s portrayal of Jesus and his sacrificial death. We are also exploring New Testament themes of resurrection, rebirth, temptation, hell, heaven, and new life, and consider their significance for the lives of present-day disciples.
SENIOR HIGH II (9TH THROUGH 12TH GRADES)
Youth Wing Upstairs Rooms 253 and 255
Taught by Chuck White – We are discussing social issues as they relate to Christianity. We dialogue about how the church can address significant issues, even controversial ones, constructively. We explore the church’s call to witness to its oneness in Christ and determine how Christians can live together faithfully in the midst of disagreement. Once we have established our ground rules for discussion, we will focus on a different social issue each week and examine it in light of scripture, tradition, reason and experience.
