Society of St. Stephen
It is hard to imagine our church not having an assistance office, but before 1992 our church was not involved in mission work very much. We think of all the families we have helped during these years, and the lives that have been touched, but also as important is how our church feels about this ministry.
So many of you have told us how seriously you take Jesus’s command to “feed the poor.” It is not an option—it is a command. It seems that every time we sing a hymn, hear Scripture or recite a Creed there is a mention of our obligation to care for others. We thank each and every one of you for your continued help and inspiration.
We helped a lady recently, and she had her 2 year old daughter with her. The little girl got a toy she was excited about, and then her mother looked in the bag of groceries that had been given to her and pulled out a package of cookies. The little girl really got excited then. As she was being taken out of our office, she was smiling and blowing kisses to us. We are sending these kisses to all of you. You are a wonderful congregation!
